Kilimanjaro
Travelogue Oct/Nov 2004
Kilimanjaro trek- Machame Route - Oct 26 to Nov 1st
2004.
 |
We had an excellent and very memorable experience climbing
Kilimanjaro.
Our thanks to:
Our guide, Justin
who was excellent and knew exactly how to pace us to ensure that we
had the best possibility of reaching the top. He is also very knowledgeable
about the landscape and flora, as well as being friendly and patient at all
times. Without his help we may not have made it. |
We
would also like to thank the following:
Assistant Guide: Julian -
although he was not with us every day - I understand he organised our guide and
porter and he arrived on fourth day with fresh food and fruit. But he assisted
us along with Justin on the final attempt to summit.
Our waiter: it was
a surprise to have one of the porters dedicate his time at camp to waiting on
us, bringing our food to the tent and waking us up with breakfast already made.
Our cook: whose cooking skills would be considered excellent at ground
level let alone half way up Kilimanjaro - the different types freshly made soup
we received every day were a particular favourite.
Our porters: of
course we would never have made it to the top if we had to carry all our own
belongings, as well as food, cooking utensils, gas, water, tents, tables and
chairs and everything else they bring along to make it that little more
comfortable.
Our tent was very good and a large size for 2 persons, all
meals were good, camp organisation by porters was efficient. We were very lucky
with the weather and it was sunny most days - although it was cold at night.
